Start of the Action
The day was split into two sessions, with each group lasting half day. To ensure that all participants had ample drive-time and personal instruction, each group was limited to 10 participants. One of the attractive elements of FD is the wide variety of vehicles used on the professional circuit. We tried to provide the same sort of variety for the newbies as well; Sync Optima and Colin were kind enuff to provide 4 very different vehicles for all to try (S15, 180SX, AE86 and KE70). As always, our emphasis at FD has always been about both DRIVER and SPECTATOR safety. So, all sessions begun with a brief safety and theory lesson by Ariff.

After that, it was off the track for some real action!
The participants came from all age groups with Mr Tong Hin (in the passenger sit above) at over 50 years old being our oldest participant. A big thumbs up to him ....it goes to show that drifting has no age barrier! |
Before, we move on...thought I better intro our last instructor...Jane. She is one of the few female drifters in the community and probably the nicest person (out of all the guys and gals in our drift circle)! Jane also recently became a hot mama to wonderful daughter with Ariff as the lucky dad. Sidetrack here.....Jane gave birth in KL while Ariff was out competing at April’s Formula Drift Singapore .... testimony to the couple’s absolute commitment to the sport.
One of the rookies in our classic AE86. Talking about classic...check our our KE70.....this car certainly brought back memories for many of us.
This cool cat here is Jeremy, one of the key behind-the-scenes guys at Formula Drift Singapore. As usual, he is making sure that things are in good order.
There were a few learning “incidents” including the usual broken bumper on Colin’s S15. Ha...at least this time it was not Colin that broke it. Nothing some duct tape would not fix.
Of course, Ivan gave taxi rides to everybody in the Binter Chaser.
Even the media got in on the act .... Terence from Hot Stuff Magazine and Amery from SgCarmart.
