Day 3: Qualifying Day – Friday

The deadline for submitting all race vehicles for technical inspection was 1200hrs on qualifying day. Imagine the shock of the other teams when we pulled up to the technical inspection pit with the car looking none the worse before the accident. However, due to lack of practise time the day before, Ivan was forced to go straight cold into qualifying. Each driver is given two qualifying run with the highest score taken.

Ivan at driver briefing before qualifying

We have no idea why he has a yellow towel wrapped around his head?! Sitting in front of him is FD Las Vegas Champion and crazy AE86 driver; Yoshoika.

Qualifying Run 1 – Ivan drove in hard and cleared the embankment on the 1st clipping point which had been is enemy the day before. As he transited into the 2nd clipping point from the high point of the embankment to the low point of the embankment he lost the drift and spun. Zero points.

Qualifying Run 2 – Ivan drove in even harder this time round, clocking entry speed of about 160 km/h, at the first clipping point, he cleared the scoring zone but clipped the very last cone onto the transition to the 2nd clipping point. The rest of the run went very smooth and Ivan was on the scoreboard. However, when the final scores were tallied, Ivan’s weekend came to a short end as he placed 24th out of the 32th drivers, required to be in the top 16 to move on to the final day.
