July 10 – Day 3 – Track Setup at Las Vegas Motorspeedway

It is summer in the desert and the FD boys were all seemingly shacked out by the heat. In all honestly, the heat was actually not too bad at all. Felt like a normal July day in Singapore without the humidity. Spent most of the afternoon observing the track set-up. The place is huge! The Airshow grounds feel pretty small in comparison to the speedway. More importantly, it was 8 ton concrete walls from start to finish of the course, so it pretty much meant that every mistake was going to result in a pretty nice “introduction”.

The team rigs started getting towed into the track area in the afternoon. Most of the established names in Formula Drift such as Chris Forberg and Sam Hubinette have pretty impressive set-ups as evidenced by the rigs and teams of mechanics surrounding them. It kinda reminded us of the support system that the WRC drivers have on tour. By nightfall, the complete area was filled with rigs of all sorts of size and variety with a buzz of activity going on.

The race track itself was set-up with in the shape of a question mark with an extremely long strip (of about 400m) running into the first clipping point. The vehicles were expected to hit speeds of over 140km/h, making it one of the faster circuits for Formula Drift.
