Ivan Lim was born and bred in Singapore and is an expert drift driver. Lim is now a tire sales executive for Binter. Binter is a leading tyre distributor in the region. Lim picked up drifting by himself at race tracks in Malaysia and has been drifting since 2005. In addition, he has also trained under Ken Nomura at Sekia Hills in Japan. Per our knowledge, Ivan is the only drifter in Singapore who has received any form of professional training under a top Japanese pro. Doing his part for charity, Lim has carried out local drift demonstrations and performed at drift events.
Lim participated in and qualified for the last 16 in all the D1 Malaysia races in 2006. He qualified in 10th place at Formula Drift Singapore Championships (April 2008) making him the top Singaporean competitor for the event. Lim also recently gained a professional license into the Formula Drift USA series and made his rookie debut at Round 7 of the series at Irwindale Speedway in Los Angeles. On recent USA appearance at Formula Drift Long Beach, Lim finished an admirable 34th out of 48 amidst a field or seasoned professionals, baring missing the qualifying cut for the final round by 1 spot. His appearance also marked Singapore's first appearance at the highest level of professional drifting.
Ivan drifts in a Toyota Chaser for regional competition. The 2004 Toyota Chaser was built in ST Garage (one of Japan's leading tuning garages) and was driven in numerous D1 Japan and Super GT races. Today, the legendary car continues its drift adventure in the hands of Ivan. The Chaser is an off-road track vehicle registered with the LTA and SMSA. Its sole purpose is for professional drifting. The Chaser is a unique drift model that was only released in Japan for domestic use. Binter's Chaser is the only one that is currently in use in S.E Asia, providing him with a unique machine and drift identity.
Ivan drifts in a S13 in the Formula Drift USA series. The S13 was built and maintained by Pac-Rim Motorsports and tuned by HKS USA. The S13 was previously driven by Formula Drift USA champion, Daijiro Yoshihara. Lim is an official member of Team Singapore Motorsports as appointed by the Singapore Sports Council.
